Kats Manager
A Gamified Productivity App
Project Timeline: Nov 2019 - May 2020
OVERVIEW
Kats Manager is a hybrid application that combines an idle game with a task managing platform. The goal of Kats Manager is to increase productivity in young people by gamifying time management. In the app, players collect and take care of cats in a virtual home while setting real-world goals in a task manager. When players complete their real-world goals, they gain benefits in the game, such as the ability to adopt more cats. To encourage players to balance the play time in the app with their real-world commitments, Kats Manager tracks a player's time spent in the app and adjusts the game play to incentivize the player to spend time away from the app and complete their real-world tasks. I collaborated with another UX designer (Mary Kate Kelley) to research and design the interfaces. We worked with two programmers (Harley White and Brendan O'Neill) to develop the mechanics of the game in Unity. We give special thanks to our advisor, game design professor Jason Wiser, who helped us refine our concept.
